The Origin Story
Freaky Foot Tours was founded in 2015 in Flagstaff, Arizona, by Susan Johnson and her son Nick Jones. Susan is a published nonfiction author with The History Press whose work centers on Arizona history, hauntings, and the stories that don't make it into the tourist brochures. Nick handles operations, storytelling, and the restless energy of building something from scratch.
What started as one tour in one mountain town has grown into a three-city operation spanning Tucson, Flagstaff, and Prescott. The Tucson tour launched in December 2024, and within six months had welcomed 735+ guests and earned a 4.9 Google rating across 229 reviews. Company-wide, Freaky Foot Tours has earned more than 1,400 verified reviews across Google, TripAdvisor, Viator, and GetYourGuide.
The roots run deep. A team member's family has called Arizona home for five generations. This isn't a franchise parachuted in from another state. This is an Arizona company telling Arizona stories.

Published nonfiction author with The History Press. Susan is the original researcher behind every story on the tour. She collaborates with the Arizona Historical Society, notable historians, and primary source archives. Every story is original, not sourced from Wikipedia or recycled from other tours.

Why This Tour Exists
When we launched in Tucson, the ghost tour market was split between a national franchise operation and a local competitor. Both relied on scripts sourced from public domain material. Neither had an original research program. Neither had a published author behind the stories.
